New Walsall Art Gallery visit!

Bob and Roberta Smith exhibition
Epstein Archive Gallery.

Persoanl collection of papers - loves and losses of the sculptor Jacob Epstein.

When looking at the works I always see a sense of personality. Beliefs. Ethics.

A sense of revolutionary art. Questioning and expressing fears and truths on placards.
Placards are used so everyone can see, can be noticed and realised. The works almost give a negative perspective on art even though the work itself is intriging and colourful.

Ideas behind the works -
-What happens to the collective memory of an artist when they die.
- The effect of an artist's work and life on their children.
- Feminism
- Issues surrounding mental health.

Bob and Roberta Smith expresses, through Epstein Archive Gallery, two years of love, sorrow and obsession.

Artists

Bob and Roberta Smith; exhibition in Walsall Art Gallery - need to check them out!!!!

These are some pieces by the artists; I like the idea behind making signs to express different things - some with clear meaning and some with complex reasons - also bizarre slogans!

Artist research

I had an idea how our presentation could be presented - I looked at the artists mentioned in the presentation; Henry Flynt and Jack Smith. These artist carried placards with writing/slogans on to stage a protest art piece. This would be really interesting for our group to do - some members of the group wearing these placards with information/summed up quotes relevant to the presentation topics.

This artist Henry Flynt, mentioned in the Artist as Revolution presentation by Cathy Wade, also was a musician. I really liked this song as a soundtrack for our presentation, called "I Don't Wanna" because clearly no one wants to do the presentation and it links in with a theme of protest/Dada movement.
I think it's light-hearted, funny and would make the presentation a lot more interesting.
